If you are working with Canadian Benefits Association on a Disability Tax Credit claim, the CRA needs proof that we are allowed to act on your behalf. That is what an authorized representative is: a person or organization you authorize to communicate with the Canada Revenue Agency, review tax information, and handle specific tax matters for you.
What is an authorized representative?
An authorized representative is someone you give CRA access to for your taxes. It can be an accountant, bookkeeper, lawyer, family member, executor, tax preparer, or an organization like Canadian Benefits Association.
Depending on the authorization level, your representative may only view information, or they may be able to update information, communicate with CRA on your behalf, submit forms, and help manage your file. Authorizing a representative does not give that person your CRA password, banking login, or sign in partner credentials.
Before you start
You need an active CRA account. For personal taxes, sign in to your individual account through CRA My Account. For business tax matters, you may need My Business Account added to your CRA account. For a trust account or non-resident tax account, make sure that account is available inside your CRA profile.
You also need the representative identifier. CRA may ask for a RepID, business number, or GroupID. For Canadian Benefits Association, use:
Representative name: Canadian Benefits Association
GroupID: GPF6SB
Recommended access: Level 2
Online access: Yes
Expiry date: Does not expire, unless you prefer a fixed date
Some instructions call this the representative’s RepID. CBA is set up as a representative group, so the correct identifier is GroupID GPF6SB.
Step-by-step instructions to authorize Canadian Benefits Association
Follow these steps to add Canadian Benefits Association as an authorized representative in your CRA account.

Step 1: Go to CRA My Account
Go to CRA My Account for Individuals:
Note: Starting July 15, 2025, CRA directs users to use Represent a Client for authorization where applicable.
This will take you to the Government of Canada sign-in page for individual CRA accounts.

Step 2: Choose your sign-in method
Choose the sign-in option you normally use.
You can sign in using:
Sign-In Partner: Use your online banking credentials.
CRA Sign-In: Use your CRA user ID and password.
Provincial Partner: Use a provincial digital ID, such as MyAlberta Digital ID or BC Services Card, if available to you.
Do not share your CRA username, password, banking login, or sign in partner information with anyone. Canadian Benefits Association does not need your login details to be added as your authorized representative.

Step 3: Open your CRA profile
Once you are logged in, select “Profile” from the top navigation menu.
This is where CRA lets you manage your personal account settings, contact details, and authorized representatives through your registered account in a secure way.

Step 4: Find the Authorized representatives section
Scroll down to the “Authorized representatives” section.
Click “+ Add” to begin adding a new representative.

Step 5: Start the authorization
Click “Start” under “Authorize a representative.”
CRA may show a short explanation before you continue. Read the section, then proceed to the next page. CRA may use this step to validate identity details as part of its security process.

Step 6: Search for Canadian Benefits Association
When CRA asks for the representative information, enter the following:
Representative name: Canadian Benefits Association
GroupID: GPF6SB
If CRA asks for the representative’s RepID, business number, or GroupID, choose GroupID if that option is available and enter GPF6SB.
Click “Search.”

Step 7: Confirm the representative
Confirm that Canadian Benefits Association appears in the search results.
Review the name carefully, then click “Next.”

Step 8: Set the authorization details
Choose the following settings:
Authorization Level: Level 2
Online Access: Yes
Expiry Date: Does not expire
Level 2 access allows Canadian Benefits Association to help with your Disability Tax Credit claim, communicate with CRA, review relevant tax information, submit forms, and assist with follow-up steps.
We recommend choosing “Does not expire” because CRA claim processing times can vary. If the authorization expires before CRA finishes reviewing your file, it may delay the process.

Step 9: Review and submit
Review all information on the confirmation page.
Make sure the representative is Canadian Benefits Association and the GroupID is GPF6SB.
Check the confirmation box, then click “Submit.”

Step 10: Confirm completion with CBA
After you submit, CRA should show a confirmation screen stating that the authorization was successful.
Please let Canadian Benefits Association know once this step is complete so we can continue with your Disability Tax Credit claim.
If CBA submits the authorization request for you
Your representative may submit an authorization request through Represent a Client, the secure CRA representative service used by accountants, bookkeepers, organizations, and other representatives to request access to a client account.
If CBA submits the initial authorization request, you still need to confirm it.
For individual clients, sign in to your CRA account, select your Individual account, go to Profile, then choose Confirm pending authorizations in the Authorized representative section. Select Canadian Benefits Association, review the request, and confirm.
For a business account, select your Business account to access My Business Account. In the business account select Profile, go to Authorized representatives, choose Manage authorized representatives, then confirm pending authorizations. If you get an error message while adding your business number, contact CRA because your identity or business records may need to be updated.
You must confirm authorization requests within 10 business days. If you miss that window, the authorization request is cancelled and the representative has to submit a new request.
Alternative method: provide tax information
If you cannot confirm online, your representative may be able to use previously assessed tax information. This usually means details from a notice of assessment that CRA sent at least six months ago.
The representative enters that assessment information in Represent a Client and submits the request. CRA may still contact you by phone to verify your identity and protect security. When the details match, this process is often faster than mailing forms.
Do not send your CRA password to anyone. A legitimate representative should ask only for the required information needed to verify and submit the authorization.
Offline access by signed consent
If you cannot use your CRA account and cannot provide tax information, your representative may ask you to sign Form AUT-01. This lets the representative communicate with CRA by phone, mail, fax, or in person, but it does not provide online access.
The signed form must be sent to the correct CRA tax centre within six months of the date you sign it.
What access level should you choose?
CRA lets you choose the level and scope of authorization. Level 1 is view-only access. Level 2 allows the representative to view and update information. Level 3 is delegated authority, generally used inside organizations.
For CBA Disability Tax Credit support, Level 2 is usually the right choice because it allows us to communicate with CRA, review relevant tax information, submit documents, and help with adjustments. You can limit access by program accounts or tax years if needed, but limiting access too much can slow the process.
You can revoke or change authorization later in your CRA account.
How long does CRA take to authorize a representative?
Online requests are usually faster than paper requests. A request submitted through My Business Account may be processed instantly. A request submitted through Represent a Client is generally processed within a few business days, allowing a representative to obtain access once CRA accepts the authorization. A paper request can take several weeks.
If you can limit access by program accounts or tax years, for business files, including corporations, the level and scope should match the account access the representative actually needs. Timing also depends on whether CRA needs to verify the request, whether the required information matches CRA records, and whether the client confirms on time.
